Education
and Networking for the
Our MissionThe Florida Publishers Association, Inc., was originally organized in 1983 by Betty Wright (Rainbow Books, Inc.) to provide Florida's growing group of book publishers with an opportunity for education and networking and to provide its members with a clearinghouse for publishing information. FPA began with only six members, but with the skyrocketing popularity of self-publishing and the subsequent rise of the small press, FPA's numbers have steadily increased. FPA's mission is to continue founder Betty Wright's vision of providing Florida's book community with an opportunity for education and networking. The organization also takes a strong First Amendment stance and assists the Association of American Publishers in its efforts to ensure our publishing freedoms by contacting legislators when free speech, publishing and copyright issues are at stake.
Organization ProfileToday, FPA boasts a membership of 150 publishers, authors, editors, illustrators, librarians, vendors and others who are considering active roles in the book publishing business. Our members come from throughout Florida, as well as several other states and Canada. FPA is a not-for-profit Florida corporation and it is an affiliate of the American Association of Publishers (AAP), Independent Book Publishers Association (PMA/IBPA), and Small Publishers Association of North America (SPAN).
