FLA Display a Success!

Products were displayed in the FPA booth at the 2011 Florida Library Association Annual Conference & Exhibition, “Open Libraries…Open Minds,” which was held May 4–6, 2011 at the Doubletree Hotel, at The Entrance to Universal Orlando, Florida

More than 600 library professionals from Florida’s innovative public, academic, school and specialty libraries attended. They were looking for all types of subject matter in all types of formats, not just Florida-specific titles in book format. 

The booth was managed by FPA Vice President, Kyle Miller:

FPA never displays titles spine-out like some commercial display companies do. Our goal is to get your book seen by the librarians. We do everything humanly possible to attract buyers to the booth, including offering gift drawings and giveaways. We collect leads, hand out your flyers—which have been placed in an attractive packet—and more. Below is an image of the full, 10-by-10' booth:

On the left, in the chair and on the table behind it, are the packets of flyers from each book displayed. On the floor are boxes of book giveaways, donated by Rainbow Books, Inc., which were a great draw. In the back left are racked the Gold Medal Winners of the FPA 2010 President's Book Awards competition, for which Florida Librarians (all FLA members) were judges. In the back center are the adult books, Florida books, Young Adult books and early reader books. On the right in back are the picture books. On the right side are the giveaways, and on the right front are the bowls where librarians placed their business cards for the 7 door prize drawings. The open chair was for use by librarians to peruse books or look up contact information for authors/publishers.

Kyle Miller, FPA's Vice President, was the booth manager. She is skilled in showing books at library events, and getting the books seen was her priority. Kyle’s email is kmiller765@aol.com.
